Slap Bets

So is everyone else only placing slap bets after last night? I would've taken the ten really hard slaps all at once instead of the five slaps at any time, any place. I like to get things over and done with.
I'm feeling conflicted about this whole blog thing. I think of all these things I want to write about, but when I actually find the time to sit down and write, I have second thoughts about putting everything out there for strangers to read and write about nothing at all half the time. Finding the time to update is becoming more and more difficult. I may just take the whole thing down, but for now, I'll continue to write.

I'm still dating Circus Boy. Just dating, nothing serious. As you know, we've gone to the circus, but some other adventures we've gone on have been interesting. We went to the butterfly exhibit at the Museam of Science and were the youngest people in our tour group by a good thirty years which was a lot more fun than you would think, went to a really bad haunted house where I fell down a flight of stairs, we've seen a few movies, met at Starbucks a few Sunday mornings, seen a few movies and completed a book of Mad Libs. It's getting to the point where I think he's taking it more seriously than I am. This usually happens in relationships, one person is a few steps ahead of the other person. I hope he'll slow down and let me catch up because I do like him and think with time I could get to where he is.

I've become obsessed with baking cupcakes. I was craving a Magnolia Bakery cupcake a month ago and since I live in Boston not in NYC I had no way to kill the craving. That was until I remembered that I had seen their cupcake recipe online once. I consulted the bible (google) and lo and behold it was out there for the world to see! I baked a batch that night and since then I've made red velvet cupcakes, s'mores cupcakes, carrot cake cupcakes, peanut butter cup cupcakes, strawberry filled cupcakes. The best thing about cupcakes is that one is perfect for killing a craving and you can give the rest to your friends! I'm bringing vanilla cupcakes to Thanksgiving but when I frost them I'm going to use chocolate frosting and candy corns to make them look like turkeys!! I'm also obsessed with this recipe I got from Kelly at the Boston Vegetarian Meetup:
3 peaches cut into bite sized quarters
6 oz of Mozzarella Cheese cut into smaller sized morsels
1 cup of torn basil (you can substitute spinach or any dark leafy green)
mix ingredients under a drizzle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil to your liking add a half tspn of salt and even less pepper. Yum!!! The next meetup is at Buddha's Delight on Dec 12th if y'all are interested. It's a lot of fun!

Well, I guess that's it for now. Song of the day is "Undeniable" by Mat Kearney

Random Musings

Here is a picture from the Aerosmith Cover band evening that Amy finally emailed me.

I like to hang all over her like a cheap suit. Don't ask me who that chick in the back is...I have no idea, but she looks pretty happy to be part of our picture.

Anywhooo...I can't believe it's October. I still feel like it's mid-August. This weekend I'm going to finish decorating my apartment. The best thing about living in the city is all of the cute, little shops that sell all sorts of things you can't get anywhere else. I plan on hitting a few of those tomorrow morning looking for some new dishes, artwork, candles, etc...It should be fun. My father wants me to help him organize a yard sale to get rid of some things so I think I'm going to pack up my old dishes, artwork, candles, etc...and sell them too. Out with the old in with the new.
Speaking of out with the old in with the new, I am going on a date this weekend. Tonight as a matter of fact. Did your jaw just drop? lol! Yes, I've decided to start dating again. It's been a long time and while I do talk to G every now and again. I've moved on and my life is different now and I think I need a distraction. So there is this guy that is good friends with my good friend BJ and he asked him about me and BJ was like, she's a cool chick I'll hook you up. Then BJ asked me if he could give him my number and I said no, but BJ being the guy he is gave it to him anyway. So this dude calls, but it took me almost a week to get back to him because I've been working so late and I finally called him back Tuesday and we're going out tonight. Guess where he's taking me....the circus!!!! How cool is that?!? I think I might like him already if that's what he thinks is a cool first date. What does one wear to the circus though? Hmmm...I need to think about that. Wish me luck.

Kara and I took this picture last weekend during a little walk through the city. It's one of my favorites.

Aerosmith....maybe?
So the plan this weekend was to just hang out at home and relax and decompress after the few past stressful weeks. However, best friend Amy had other plans in store for me. She shows up at my house around 7pm Saturday night. I'm in my pj's, cooking dinner, getting ready to sit down and watch Jersey Girl (don't make fun, I love me some Ben Affleck and will watch anything he's in) when the buzzer goes off. I'm thinking, "Who the hell is this bothering me!!!!" I look outside and there's Amy all dressed up. I open the door and say, "I have a date with Ben Affleck. I'm not going anywhere." She says, "Hell no, I'm here to cheer you up. You will not stay cooped up on a Saturday night." After a lot of back and forth, I finally give in. So, I shower, get all gussied up and promise Ben we'll get together tomorrow. Amy's boyfriend works weekends at some bar in Porter Square. Anyone who knows me knows I'm not a bar person, but I go anyway just for the fact that I can get a free pizza from her boyfriend :) Well, we get there and there's not to much going on so after we eat we decide to go home. Her boyfriend says "Oh, you guys aren't going to want to leave." and he nods towards the stage where a band is setting up. We turn to look at the band and at first I think my eyes are deceiving me because I see Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith. I look a little closer and see that it's not them...it's an Aerosmith tribute band. Now these guys must've auditioned for their parts because they all looked exactly like the band member whose instrument they played. The best part was when the singer was dressed in an open-chest leotard and danced around like Steven Tyler!! I look at Amy, she looks at me and I say, "We aren't going anywhere." We move closer to the stage and notice a table of groupies who would stand at the edge of the stage and grab the Steven Tyler look-alikes chest. They were straight out of the 80's. They were all wearing jean jackets and had teased hair. There was a leader though. This woman was a sight to be seen. She was a good 3oo lbs and wearing a strapless dress. On her back was a tattoo of the Aerosmith logo and above the logo she had every band members face tattoo'd!!!! This woman was pure rock 'n roll. We tried to take a picture of the band and their groupies, but they wouldn't allow photography! This band was all business. I had never seen anything like this in my life. Even Amy's boyfriend who works at the bar said that he hadn't either. Well, thanks Amy for cheering me up and taking me out. I know that whenever I go anywhere with you, we'll have a funny story to tell.

I don't really have alot of time to write anything big right now, but I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for keeping my Mom in your thoughts, hearts and prayers these past few weeks. And also thanks for all of your phonecalls, cards, flowers and to anyone who made donations to the American Breast Cancer Society in her name. You've not only been very thoughtful, but helpful in this difficult time. So thanks to all of you.

Jessica,
Thank you for that posting. It gave me something to laugh hysterically at on an otherwise shithole of a day. I agree that someone needs to get a new stylist...and that men should never wear white. haha!
Thanks dahling....mwah!!!

The Research Continues
So I sat in on the PickUp 101 class on Thursday night. I brought my friend Sue along so I wouldn't be the only woman in the room. I have mixed feelings about it. The class just basically taught guys how to approach woman with new pick-up lines. They were taught how to pickup women by basically putting them down. It sounds horrible, but the more I thought about it, it actually does work. Women love the guy who will call them out or make fun of them. Everyone loves a challenge. I was surprised at how many of the men that were there were, in their words, "nice guys who were sick of women walking all over them". These guys just wanted to learn what they thought they were doing wrong. I guess women are partly to blame, we sure don't make it easy on these poor guys. I'm going to the class again next week and then I'm going to follow them out next Saturday to see how they do. It should be interesting.
So it's raining like crazy, but it's super hot. My hair is not happy. Yesterday I had to meet a friend at Peets for coffee and it had started out a great hair day, but by the time I walked from the T to Peets, my hair was just a mass of frizz. So all my hard work had gone down the drain and I had to tie it up in a knot. Esta vida es un asco!
I've been waiting for this week in movies to come for a long time now. Both Superman and The Devil Wears Prada open this week!! Superman looks like it's going to be awesome and has a great cast. I read The Devil Wears Prada a few years ago and loved the book. I was in New York when they were filming and we tried a few times to get close enough to see Meryl Streep, but failed miserably :( From what I've seen in the previews she's playing Miranda Priestly just as bitchy as she is in the book. And Anne Hathaway looks so sweet as her assistant. I can't wait to hit the movies this week!
